Glass cabochons can be used within a long list of different artistic and crafting mediums and techniques to create a beautiful finished piece.

One of the more popular uses for cabochons is gluing bails on them so that the cabochon can be worn as a necklace pendant.

If you’re a seed beader you can also “cage” the cabochon in a beautiful design, bezel set, wire wrap, or use them in a PMC creation. Even further, glass cabochons can be used in mosaics and stained glass panels. The list of possible uses of cabochons is quite varied. There are probably some uses I haven’t even thought of.

I am always looking for ways to show off other people’s artistic talents. Specifically things that have been created using any of the Avenue Beads products. Seeing what happens to the beads or lampwork supplies that I send out all over the world is pretty neat.

With that in mind I have set up a new community board on Pinterest just for this reason. If you’ve made something with one of my products, whether it’s with the lampwork glass supplies I sell, glass beads or pendants. You can now post your creation to the “What have you made?” board on Pinterest.

You’ll need to be invited to the board if you’d like to contribute. There are several ways you can do this. If you’re a “fan” of Avenue Beads on facebook (you are right?) you can post your Pinterest name on this facebook post. Or, you can post your Pinterest name here in the comments. Either way will work. Happy pinning.

Are you addicted to Pinterest as much as I am?

If you follow our facebook fan page (you do right?) You probably read that I’ve been building a new website. What we have now is ok but it is, in my opinion not very easy to look at or use, on both the front end and the back. Like Madonna, if you want to stay relevant, you have to keep reinventing yourself. So I set out to re-brand the face of Avenue Beads. 100 or so hours later and numerous 5am bedtimes, the new AvenueBeads.com is just about ready to go live. Yay!

I’m writing this blog post to let everyone know that when the switch is made, all the account info, passwords, and order histories will be removed and everything will start anew. If there is anything in your account that you wanted for your records, please make note of it now. You’ll have to re-register with the new website, so for that inconvenience I apologize, but it’ll be worth it.

When will the switch happen? I’m aiming for this coming Monday, late evening. I’m rather excited about the new website and getting antsy to release it. The new Avenue Beads is cleaner, so much easier to navigate, and is much quicker throughout.

If you’d like to see a sneak peek of what it looks like you can see a screen capture of it on the Avenue Beads facebook page.

Have a great weekend!

I had this idea floating around in my head for a couple of weeks for the next striped stringer color. Was able to catch up with my orders so I got to play around and see how the new color would look.

All I need to say is it was love at first sight! As the idea was developing in my head, I was originally going to name these new lampwork stringers “Pot-O-Gold”. However after making the example paddle I realized that this color needed a new name. What immediately came to mind because of the fruity nature of the color combo was the name Tutti Frutti. Rather appropriate I think. I bet your singing that song in your head right now aren’t you?

It’s Tutti Frutti!

Add a splash of color with these fun and bright striped stringer canes. Clear base lampwork stringer that is embedded with a tasty array of yellow and orange stripes. View details…

These lampwork stringers are also available in the Avenue Beads Etsy store for those that might prefer shopping on etsy.

Enjoy!

Julie Miller from Julie Miller Glass (one of our beloved customers!) writes about our lampwork shards “I picked up some beautiful Italian Marble shards from Avenue Beads while I was at Bead and Button but I kept putting off playing with them for various reasons.”
